The word ollin has multiple meanings, at once signifying rubber, earthquake, and movement. The concept of ollin was compelling for a festival focused on the theme of race in that it implies cultural elasticity and social movement.

The mask was created by Zarco Guerrero as part of OLLIN by Daniel Valdez, a musical theatre piece about the invasion of Tenochtitlan in 1519.
